JSMMarathon July 7, 2012

What an adventure this has been running a marathon in every state....Vermont will be my last state, and I've had to create a marathon since there is not a marathon on Saturday...I've called this marathon the Joseph Smith Memorial Marathon... So far I have 10 participants!  I am so excited!  I have several top runners participating including...Larry Macon...Guinness Book of Record holder three years in a row...He has run 107 marathons each year!..Lois Berkowitz President of the 50 states club, Cowboy Bob and Henry Rueden who have run at least 800 marathons to date....INCREDIBLE FIELD...I have been going through health issues...I pray I can endure to the end of this goal...Being a Race Director is a little stressful to say the least....DESERET NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT THE MARATHON...What a missionary tool this marathon is...

Ogden Marathon May 19, 2012

2 weeks after Running River Towns marathon in Danville PA, was not enough time to heal a tired body 1st mistake!...The start of the Ogden Marathon was awesome....I had distributed all my JSM Marathon cards and was excited to run...Wearing my Hoka's was my second mistake...All the slanted roads and downhill running took 2 toenails off my right foot, and created a blood blister under my callous of my left foot...I wanted to be done at the half start line...But I needed to endure to the end!  I kept thinking of who I was running for...TEAM BOOK OF MORMON...I also thought about my Grandchildren waiting to see me at 21!  I had to be strong even though I was in pain....I had talked with my marathon maniac group before the marathon and tried to convince them to run the JSM...One woman said if you give me gold plates at the end, I'll run!  Funny!  Anyway, I promoted my run all along the course wearing my COME RUN THE JSM MARATHON shirt!  Going up 14 was sooooo hard!  If it wasn't for some chomps I found on the road, I would have died...I was so hungry.  Running through the canyon was beautiful, but I was in pain.  Hitting the Dinosaur park was awesome, especially after seeing my children and grandchildren...  I had Jayni swap out shoes with me which gave me some relief...Running past the temple always gives me extra strength... I LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE running the Ogden because I know I'm almost done!  After stopping several times adjusting shoes, socks, pants etc, I still had a time of 4:04...NOT BAD especially after running Danville 2 weeks prior...Heavenly Father blessed me...Christ was my yoke partner....I have sore feet, I'm tired, my right knee hurts, but I did it....If I can run a marathon, anyone can!  Ogden is a beautiful, well organized marathon, and fast.  You need to train downhill however and wear oversized shoes.

Danville Pa River Town Marathon MAY 5, 2012

What a beautiful marathon...Running right beside the Susquehanna!  I loved this race...There was about 3 miles on trail each way, which was a wonderful break from asphalt for the feet.  Before the race I was able to talk to all my marathon buddies, and tell them to run the JSM Marathon.  It's always nice to know everyone is as nervous as you are starting out....My goal was just to complete the run.  We turned around at a park that was very beautiful... I wore my Altra's the entire way.  My feet were beautiful, but my right knee and left heel hurt pretty bad...We had a hilly course which I liked a lot.  I met up with the half marathoners about mile 20...I tried to pace myself with them which was easy.... The finish was a trail run right beside the river.  It was nice to have such a beautiful finish to take your mind off the pain...We finished in town where they were having a their street festival...Met some LDS on the course and at the packet pick up the night before which is always fun... The LDS gal was struggling about mile 14 and I told her to put her faith in Christ and he would be her yoke partner...Then I told her to bare testimony of his mercy and love helping her finish the course!  I always know it is because of him I'm able to finish each marathon....I love my Savior Jesus Christ...I'll boast of him and his strength!  I placed 11th overall female, 1st in my age division coming in at 4:10:41....Afterwards Nicholas and I went to the festival to spend my $5 they gave each participant then we went through Amish country.  There we met some fun Amish young adults and talked with them about hunting adventures in Alaska, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Fun day...The next day Nicholas took me on a Church history tour to New Harmony Pa....It was fun to see Lucy's parents house and other church history sites...Almost didn't make it back to the airport however...It was very stressful.  GLAD TO BE HOME!
